Orchestra Beginning of the Year Assignment 2021-2022

OBOY! We are back! Here is your first assignment of the year. It should take you about 30 minutes. You will receive a grade for completing ALL of the tasks.

Part 1: Introduce yourself on FlipGrid! Create a short video.

Part 2: Sign up for text messages on Remind.
Note: If you were previously subscribed to AHS Orchestra Reminds, you will need to resubscribe.

Part 3: Submit your contact information to Dr. Laux (you’ll need parents info)

Part 4: Verify and/or update your information on the Infinite Campus Portal

Part 5: Download and install the Microsoft Teams app for your phone or other devices you use regularly (if you don’t already have it) Click for iOS or Android

Part 6: Bookmark our Orchestra website in your browser and on your phone (or add a shortcut icon to your phone’s home screen)

Part 7: Follow us on our social media accounts (FaceBook Page/Facebook Members GroupTwitterInstagramYouTube)

Part 8: Ensure that you have all the necessary equipment.

  • a working instrument with strings that are not false or old
  • a bow that tightens/loosens, has good clean hair
  • rosin
  • shoulder rest (violin/viola) or rock stop (cello/bass)
  • music stand (Dr. Laux has some foldable stands to loan if you need one)
  • metronome/tuner app on your phone (download one!)
  • music folder (given out in class)
  • pencil (given out in class)

Part 9: If you are going to be renting a school-owned instrument for home or in-school use, please:

  1. complete the online rental agreement form.
  2. pay the $50 yearly rental fee on OSP

Part 9 applies to ALL cello and bass players and any violin/viola players who are using a school instrument.

Part 10: Download and read the AHS Orchestra handbook and AHS Common Syllabus (on Teams).
