The nationally recognized Alpharetta High School orchestra program was established in the fall of 2004 when the school first opened its doors. Since then, the program has swelled to accommodate four orchestras and around two hundred members. History of the Program

Alpharetta High School opened its doors for the first time in 2004 and the orchestra was founded by Mr. Sheldon Fisher. Under his direction, the orchestra would grow in size, scope, and quality. The Chamber orchestra performed at the 2006 Midwest International Band & Orchestra Clinic in Chicago and the Symphony Orchestra performed at the same venue in 2012. The orchestra also took several trips to Carnegie Hall and has performed internationally, and at other prestigious events such as the National ASTA Conference in 2008. After a 40 year career in music education and 12 years as the founding director of the Alpharetta Orchestra program, Mr. Fisher retired in the Spring of 2016. His legacy, enthusiasm, and spirit will never be forgotten.
In 2016, Dr. Charles Laux was named director of the Alpharetta High School Orchestra program and continues to support the traditions founded by Mr. Fisher and further develop the program. In 2018, Dr. Laux founded the AHS Chamber Orchestra, an 18-piece ensemble made up of the most elite string players in the school. The chamber orchestra is the 5th string ensemble at AHS. Also in 2018, the AHS Symphony Strings were invited to perform at the 72nd Annual Midwest Clinic in Chicago. A recording of their performance can be found on Apple Music and Spotify.
