Orchestra Conductor

Dr. Laux has over two decades of experience directing school and youth orchestras and has worked with numerous honors and regional orchestras. Notable appearances include the Ohio MEA District 1 Middle School Honors Orchestra (2010), the New Mexico All-State Concert Orchestra (2012), the Georgia Statewide Middle School Honors Orchestra (2013), the South Carolina Low Country 9-10 Regional Honor Orchestra (2014), the Berea City Schools (Ohio) District-wide honor orchestra festival (2015), the South Carolina Middle School All-State Orchestra (2016), the West Virginia Middle School All-State Orchestra (2018); and the GMEA Region 10 Honor Orchestra (2019). Presenter

Dr. Laux has presented educational sessions for The Midwest Clinic, the American String Teachers Association, the Technology Institute for Music Education, the Association for Technology in Music Instruction, and numerous state music educators association conferences (AZ, FL, GA, ID, KY, MI, NJ, NY, OH, OK, OR, SC, TX, WI).  Some of his topics have included:  String pedagogy, teaching heterogeneous string classes, educational technology integration, iOS Apps, podcasting and more. He has also served as a leader of workshops for school district professional development days. Please see his current list of available presentations.

Orchestra Clinician/Sectional Coach

Dr. Laux has been active as a rehearsal clinician, sectional coach, and guest conductor in Georgia within the Cobb County, Fulton County, and Gwinnett County school systems.

Adjudicator

Dr. Laux has served as an adjudicator for several large festival companies (Music in the Parks, etc.) and as an adjudicator for the Clark County School District (Las Vegas) Advanced High School Festival, the Fairfax County Schools, and more. He is also an adjudicator for the prestigious Worldstrides Festivals of Gold.

Career Counselor

Dr. Laux has had a diverse career as a string teacher/orchestra director having taught in four different states as a private teacher, a public school orchestra director (from elementary through high school), and also served a full-time, tenure-track college professor. He is available to advise other string teachers in making important career choices or can give advice to those who may be deciding to move schools or relocate.

Whether you are a music educator who was a non-string major in college or a veteran string teacher looking for additional training in string classroom pedagogy, Dr. Laux can work with you to find strategies that will help improve your student’s technique and facilitate teaching.

Violinist/Violist

Having played the violin for over 30 years, Dr. Laux performs professionally as a freelance musician in the greater Atlanta area.  His previous orchestral experiences include performances with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the Nevada Chamber Orchestra, and others.  He has a great deal of experience performing in chamber music settings, most recently with the Columbus String Quartet.
