Bio  (2025)

Dr. Charles Laux is the Director of Orchestras at Lassiter High School in the Cobb County School District, just north of Atlanta, Georgia. He also serves as an Essential Elements clinician, consultant, and contributor for the Hal Leonard Corporation. Dr. Laux holds degrees in music education from Ohio University and the University of Nevada–Las Vegas, as well as a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.

A string educator for 30 years, Dr. Laux has taught students from elementary through collegiate levels. From 2016 to 2022, he directed five orchestras at Alpharetta High School in Fulton County, Georgia, including the nationally recognized Symphony Orchestra. Prior to that, he served as Assistant Professor of String Music Education at Kennesaw State University (2012–2016), where he taught string techniques and pedagogy, supervised student teachers, conducted the KSU Philharmonic, and founded the KSU String Project—growing it to serve nearly 110 elementary students. Under his leadership, KSU became the largest string education program in Georgia. Previously, Dr. Laux directed award-winning orchestra programs in Nevada, Florida, and Ohio, including ensembles selected to perform at the Midwest Clinic in both 2006 and 2018.

An artist-educator endorsed by D’Addario Orchestral and Eastman Stringed Instruments, Dr. Laux has presented more than 200 educational sessions for organizations including the Midwest Clinic, the American String Teachers Association (ASTA), and music education technology conferences in 26 states. He has also led professional development for school districts nationwide and presented internationally in Quito, Ecuador. His performance credits include the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Nevada Chamber Symphony, Columbus String Quartet, and collaborative performances with members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Laux recently completed a two-year term as a Member at Large on ASTA’s national board and is the current President Elect for Georgia ASTA.  He remains in frequent demand as a clinician, conductor, and adjudicator.
