I Support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

In addition to giving back to the string/orchestra teaching community through my work on The Orchestra Teacher website, YouTube channel, and podcast, I am a supporter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Learn more about the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and their mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

I lost my mother to suicide at age 11 and have also been impacted by the losses of friends, colleagues, and, most recently, one of my high school orchestra students in 2017. Throughout the remainder of my childhood and most of my adult life, I did not have help or the knowledge of the resources that were available.

Then, in 2019, I was invited by my good friend Chris to participate in the “Out of the Darkness” walk in Boston, a fundraiser to support the AFSP. This event was an overnight walk, approximately 16 miles, through the city of Boston. That year I raised over $2000 for the organization and since then supporting AFSP and those impacted by suicide has been one of my missions. AFSP has provided me with the support and knowledge to cope with my own pain and the inspiration to help others who may be suffering.

Support AFSP by making a donation.
