I am studying conducting with Professor Richard Blatti. My goals are to gain a better understanding of wind conducting, wind literature, and working with wind instruments in general.
Spring Quarter:
This quarter I will be conducting the OSU Symphonic Band during sight reading session. I will be conducting:
- Flourish for Wind Band - Vaughn Williams
- Amazing Grace - Frank Tichelli
- Caccia and Chorale - Clifton Williams
- William Byrd Suite - Gordon Jacob
Winter Quarter:
Project #1: Review transpositions. I will take excerpts of Beethoven String Quartets and arrange them for a Woodwind quartet, Brass quartet, and Saxophone quartet.
Project #2: Take an orchestral score I already know and find areas in the score that pose problems for the wind players (and the conductor). I will be using Brahms' Tragic Overture.
Project #3: Memorize all instrument's lowest notes
