I'm in!
March 27, 2008
I'm very happy to have been selected to participate
this quarter, especially since it is Dr. Conable's
last quarter at OSU.
Today we learned about the head and neck. I didn't realize how the skull pivoted on the vertebrae. We were able to see a skeleton model of this which really helped me visualize it.
When working with Dr. Conable, we noticed that I put tension in my body, especially in the head and neck, when I stood up. If your head leads and relaxes, it's almost effortless to stand.
I am excited to see what the future brings and how this course will help me in everyday life, on the podium, and with my violin/viola.

First Day
March 25, 2008
I am very excited about beginning the Alexander
Technique course. I am especially excited because my
instructor is Dr. Conable, a noted expert and author
in AT. Hopefully I will get in, there's high demand
and priority is by rank (regardless of
undergraduate/graduate status).
In class I noticed that it takes a light touch to make the body expand. Dr. Conable mentioned how most animals expand as they move. As humans, many of us have formed bad habits that produce tension and a contraction of our body when we move. Its important to be open, lengthened, and relaxed.
I also found it neat to see other students improve their posture -- you can really see a big difference!
