While I agree that music should not be copied, I do think that some music publisher’s music is overpriced, especially for the education market. Understandably, many publishers won’t even consider listing pieces in their catalog that won’t sell hundreds of copies. This leaves a hole in the market and a need for quality sheet music of lesser-known works and works of independent authors.
For these reasons, I want to offer today’s educators a deal that is good for both the composer and the educational institution. I do understand that marketing materials, advertising, shipping, and the like costs money, but there is a better way for independent publishers. As a long-time Apple/Mac user, I tend to “think different” when it comes to sheet music, copyright, and publishing. I feel that it is important to make everyone happy.
Here’s how Laux Music compositions and arrangements will work:
- I do not use printed music, pieces are electronically delivered in PDF format
- The piece may be copied as many times as you wish for yourself or your organization, but may not be distributed to others. Any external use of the piece will be considered copyright infringement. Each piece will be imprinted with a license number that includes the individual’s or group’s name.
- Pieces will be affordable so that everyone can own them!
